Staying home, but moving ahead

How does Telehealth work?

Picture
We partner with parents to create a Telehealth plan that allows children to work on all of their skills, including adaptive, communication, academic, social, and fine motor skills. Parents rest easier knowing their child will make progress despite these challenging times.

We have no way of knowing when it will be safe to provide in-person sessions. We also don't know if stay-in-place orders will become a routine occurrence. What we can say is that our company is dedicated to the well-being of your child! We are so dedicated that we worked day and night to turn our in-person company into a Telehealth powerhouse within weeks.

I'm often asked, "Why don't you have a clinic?" I always explain that when I was a teacher, kids would respond to my instruction within my four walls. However, my mission is to help children and adolescents where they need it most - in community settings, daycares, homes, preschools, and private elementary schools! Providing high-quality, effective services online is one more extension of my mission to help kids and families where they are - which is home for right now.

Here are some frequently asked questions:

How old are the individuals that you serve online:
We are having incredible success working with children online from three to twelve-years-old!

How long are the sessions?
Sessions are from one to three hours, with some clients scheduling multiple sessions a day. We also provide 30-minute social skills groups.

What do I need to participate?
We utilize HIPAA compliant Zoom rooms, so all you need to do is click on a link, and your session begins! Parents have joined using laptops, iPads, and phones.

I have to work, so when are services?
We understand many families are working from home. Therefore, we provide services as early as 8:00 am and running as late as 7:30 pm.

What about behavior? What if my child starts to tantrum?
We work with families to reduce problem behavior during the sessions. Many children are motivated by screens, so we utilize this to our advantage to increase engagement. Your BCBA and behavior technician will coach you through any tantrums that might arise. We also work hard to embed preventative strategies to avoid tantrums in the first place.

My child is still learning to speak. How can you help her?
One of our specialties is working to improve communication skills! We have online programs designed to help your child participate using sign language, gestures (e.g., pointing), and communication devices.

I don't want my child sitting in front of a screen all day. What do you say about that?
Neither do we! We work throughout the session to provide movement and sensory breaks, such as dancing and yoga!

It's hard to believe Telehealth will work for my child. Shouldn't I wait for clinics to open?
The answer is up to you. What I can say is that most of our clients were apprehensive about online sessions, but now our families are excited about the work we are doing!
